The World Needs All Kinds of Minds
I thought this talk on TED by Temple Grandin would be a good place to start. It answers a question that I was asked earlier this week. ‘Why to do you chose to work with people with mental health challenges?’ My answer was not far from ‘the world needs all kinds of minds’. We are all valid, none of us are immune to mental health challenges, some do have more challenges to negotiate than others, we all have a contribution to make and I am interested in supporting, motivating and working with people that have possibly been overlooked in mainstream society. All our minds work differently. We all have different abilities and face varying challenges. Being different must be celebrated and its necessary we develop what people can do and not what they cant. Diverse thinking interests me and I learn a lot when my own perception of reality is challenged.
